Pruska Kultura
The first Polish film ever made, Prussian Culture (1908) expresses the perception of Germans in the pre-war years. I love old works like these. Much of the militaristic Prussian stereotype was earned, as war-lording tends to produce such views. But it’s interesting to filter the message of the film too, as it’s obviously propaganda. Adhering to Keats’ notion of negative capability seems like the wisest course when confronting primary documents like these.
